The name of the game was rinks and the standout bowlers included Phylis MacFarlane, Margaret Dowie and Lorraine Appleby.
On Tuesday evening, the barefoot bowls attracted 21 players and all bowled well.
The winning team was Jenny Fisher, Ian Haines and Lloyd Buchanan (s) in a superb performance to score two wins, +11 shots while Cindy Felmingham and Andy Harris (s) finished second on two wins, +4 shots.
Thanks to Steve Peter for the barbecue and Phillip Cunnington behind the bar.
It was a big weekend of bowls for the club, with all pennant teams playing at home.
On Friday, the women’s sides turned up to play bowls and defeated the visiting Rich River teams with a scoreline of 39 shots to 25 and both rinks up, moving into third spot on the premiership ladder.
Score: Annette Brereton d. B Mills 20-11; Phylis MacFarlane d. B Cox 19-14.
In the weekend pennant Lockington saw two wins and a loss.
Division Three defeated a gallant Elmore 64-56 after scores were level at 55-all with three ends to play, moving into second on the ladder.
Score: Graham Turner d. M Malone 30-20; Phillip Cunnington d. RC Williams 21-14; Leanne McInnes lost to K Brooks 13-22.
Division Four lowered its colours to top-of-the-table Rich River 27-42, with both rinks down.
Score: Dave Thomas l.t. R Ritchie 16-25; Neil Haines l.t. K Rowan 11-17.
Division Five had all eight cylinders working to defeat the unbeaten Kyabram combination 47-30.
All members contributed to the impressive performance and now sit in fifth place on the premiership ladder.
Score: John Whiteside d. B McIntosh 22-12; L Buchanan d. J Fanning 25-18.
The BowlsVic State Singles competition was played at the Moama Bowling Club on Sunday.
Ken Main represented the club and won his first game 25-14 against K Black (Moama), but lost the second game 18-25 against Barry Tinning (Tongala).
There were plenty of exciting games played during the course of the day, with several scores of 25-24 being recorded.
Young Jacob Brighton (Moama) lost to Rob Wastell (Moama) 24-25 in the quarter-final while Steve Cunnington (Echuca) lost to Peter Campbell (Moama) 23-25.
Another tight match was the clash between two Rich River skippers, Peter Nesbitt and Jason McCloy, with McCloy advancing to the semi-finals, winning 25-24.
Kevin Anderson (Moama) was in superb form to win a place in the semi-finals after defeating Brian Davie (Moama), Brad Tinning (Tongala) 25-22 and Barry Tinning (Tongala) 25-10.
The semi-finalists are McCloy to play Campbell and Wastell to tackle Anderson.
There were also some standout games in the Women’s State Singles, with Marilyn Stephenson and Cassandra Millerick advancing to the semi-finals along with Joan Moss and Estelle Bennett.
Birthday wishes to our hard-working lady secretary, Bev Brereton; edging closer to the century.
The 60-and-Over competition was held at the Echuca Bowling Club on Wednesday, and two Lockington teams were successful.
On Friday evening there was a small number at the barbecue and practice session. The lucky members’ draw favoured the missing Jim Harris.

Echuca
With all pennant resuming, Echuca had a mixed bag.
In midweek pennant, Division One had a battle, with the only winning rink being Roma Opie’s.
Graeme Poulton’s rink in Division Two won 27 to 9, which was enough for the win.
Division Three travelled south to Rochester and Jill Young’s rink had a good 21-16 win to help Echuca clinch an exciting 42-40 victory.
In weekend pennant, Division Two had all three rinks up for a maximum point score of 16.
In Division Three, Max Clifford’s rink had a win but the team had an overall loss.
Both rinks in Division Four had close matches and will be looking for a win this week.
Division Five had a win overall, with John Hollowood’s rink winning 29 shots to 17.
Monday night bowls was won by Daryl La Velle, Andrew Humphrys and Peter Hann.
Runners-up were Col Berryman and Rae Hann. Tuesday morning bowls saw a play-off between the Cliffords, with June the winner.
In Thursday men’s pairs, winners were John Dinsdale and Bill Cook. Runners-up were Norm Hodge and Bill Toll.
