Rochester Bowls Club
Congratulations to Graham Willis on being nominated and unanimously elected as our latest life member at our recent annual general meeting.
Hold tight - we’re checking permissions before loading more content
Willis has been an extremely hard working member of our club and board for some time and we would be lost without his leadership, skills, knowledge and persistence in what has been a difficult few years.
Photos of the B green progress show rock and drainage done and ditches in position.
I believe there are 300 cubic metres of fill all up. Soon the rest of the filling will be in, ready for sowing in late spring with the carpet surrounds like the other two greens.
There is a fair bit of other work going on around the club, including new seating.
All members are urged to attend a vital meeting to be held on Wednesday, June 14, at 7pm, to discuss a future model for governance of the club.
As it becomes more difficult to attract sufficient people to take positions in the club, we will be asking all members their opinions regarding how best to structure decision-making processes into the new season.
The meeting will also discuss the number of pennant teams to be entered for the coming season.
The impact of the flood disaster has meant selectors need to gauge how best to structure our bowls teams. If you are unable to attend, please convey your thoughts to another member who will be there.
Membership renewals can be paid now.
Cost for a full member is $180, but $10 less if paid before July 31. Playing social is $70, new player membership is $100, indoor bowls membership is $50, junior membership is $60 and social membership is $30. Forms in foyer.

Lockington Bowls Club
Not much on the bowling front this past week, with members enjoying the hospitality and greens at various local club tournaments — some success for most, but a little less luck for the remainder.
The popular game of scrounge attracted a strong field on Wednesday, with five rinks in play. The club welcomed visitors from Echuca and Diamond Creek.
The star of the day was Terrill Westwood, scoring a day high 59 points to dominate rink four ahead of Frank Chugg and Kevin McAsey, both scoring 40 points.
Rink one belonged to Graham Turner, amassing a steady 45 points to claim the prize from Eddy Sarton (33), Ian Stagg and John van den Bosch on 19 points each.
Ray Hanson showed glimpses of form in registering a solid 41 points to win rink three ahead of Andy Harris 38, Lady President Denise Gilmore 35 and Graeme Wood 23 points.
Rink two provided some exciting bowls, with Owen McPhee displaying brilliance to card 55 points and win the rink from Keith Robertson (37), Alan Kauffman on 29 closely followed by Norma Sarton on 20 points.
On the final rink five, the women fought out a real battle with Lois Chugg leading the field home on 38 points followed by Sue Harris (34), and Katthi Maddison and Lorraine Appleby both scoring 32 points.
The game of scrounge will feature on Wednesday (weather permitting) starting at 1pm. Names to be listed prior to 12.45pm. Flat-soled shoes or barefoot, and bowls are available.
The club is preparing for the long weekend in June with the staging of the Bowls and Pig on Spit extravaganza commencing at noon on Monday, June 12.
One game of bowls will be played over 10 ends then the Pig on Spit Spiders will be on offer. Bar open and entry is $10 per person. Bookings are limited. Contact Ian Johnson or Lloyd Buchanan for entries.
Ken Main has transferred to the Echuca Bowls Club after serving our club over several seasons. Main won the club championship in 2020 to 2022 and played in our top pennant competition. The club offers him best wishes in his future bowling.
The club will hold the annual general meeting on Monday, June 5 at 7.30pm. Nomination forms are available at the club.
