Twenty-two bowlers attended Monday’s social bowls with the winners being Chris Campbell (s), Bob Pratt and M. Redapple with two wins (+21) from June Clifford and C. Lynch, also with two wins (+10).

Twenty-two teams also attended Thursday’s jackpot pairs in humid conditions.

There were four two-game winners — Peter and Chooka Tinning (+8), Tim Fraser and Jerome Shaw (+9), runners-up John Brown and Maurie Hateley (+20) and winners Dennis Ricketts and Bob Pratt (+25).

Best one-game went to Greg Clymo and Jim Harris with +18.

The jackpot of $120 was won by Geoff Tinning and Ian Parkinson.

The intra-club five-a-side was unfortunately washed out last Tuesday.

Entries for the next tournament, which is the women’s 2x4x2 triples on Wednesday, March 23, should be made through Rhonda Gallagher on 0448 400 051 or placed on the sheet in the club rooms.

Midweek pennant division one defeated Rich River by 10 shots, winning two rinks, to retain its position at the top of the ladder. It is 14 points ahead of Moama, who it meets in the semi-finals at Mathoura on Friday.

Best performance went to Leica Roney (s), Pat Schram, Robyn Tooley and Di Payne with a 19-13 victory.

Division two travelled to Tongala and came away with a heavy 27-shot loss.

However, it retained second position on the ladder from Tongala and will meet Moama in the second semi-final at Rochester on Friday.

Best performance went to the only winning rink of Marie Malone (s), Belinda Chong, Lorelle Opthoog and Lyn Brown, who won 20-15.

Division three was defeated by Rich River at home by one shot.

Kristy Gillingham (s), Linda Ormando, Anne Vanderkley and Joan Armstrong formed the only winning rink, getting home by four shots.

Weekend pennant was a mixed bag with divisions one and two the only successful teams.

Division one travelled to Deniliquin and managed to win two of the three rinks to chalk up a 16-shot victory thanks mainly to Ian Page (s), Steve Cunnington, John Dinsdale and Matt Brighton who had a 14-shot win (22-8).

They comfortably retained top position with 160 points from Tongala (112), Rich River (111) and Deniliquin (86) to set up a semi-final clash against Tongala at Deniliquin on Saturday.

Division two defeated Deniliquin RSL by 18 shots at home, winning all three rinks to safely hold top spot by 38 points from Rochester (152), Moama (144) and Deniliquin (118). It will play Rochester in the qualifying final at Rich River on Saturday.

Division three travelled to Deniliquin and won only one rink, going down by 28 shots to end a disappointing season.

The only winning rink was Lal Whyte (s), John Cowan, Steve Campion and June Clifford, who managed to hold on for a one-shot win.

Division 4A travelled across the river to challenge second-top team Moama Red but was defeated by 29 shots, losing both rinks.

Blue finished the season in third position and meets the fourth team at Mathoura on Saturday.

Division 4B Echuca White was defeated by Moama Green by 21 shots. These teams will clash again in the first semi-final on Saturday at Mathoura.

It is good to have Mathoura with two sides playing in the finals this year — a team in midweek and one in weekend pennant. We wish both sides good bowling.

Club games need to be played.

Lockington

Last Tuesday, the weather turned sour and rained most of the day, therefore washing out the women's social bowls as well as the popular sports/barefoot bowls on Tuesday evening.

On Wednesday, several locals played in the weekly 60-and-over competition at Rochester. The rink of Ray Hanson, Kevin Humbert, Ian Johnson and Graham Turner (s) was successful on the day and was able to take home the prized chooks. Other teams bowled well but had little luck.

In the Campaspe Area Pennant competitions, the club managed to have just one division gracing the winners’ circle. The women fought out a gallant match against top team Moama and lost 46-63 with one rink up (Annette Brereton d D. Hogan 22-12; Pauline Humbert lost to B. Trengove 12-23; Phyllis MacFarlane lost to B. Button 12-28).

In weekend pennant, division three defeated Rich River 74-34 with all three rinks up (Graham Turner d T. Beck 24-7; Phillip Cunnington d G. Edgar 24-11; Leanne McInnes d A. Linquist 26-16). Division three finished the season in second position on the premiership ladder and will meet Moama in the second semi-final on Saturday at Echuca Bowls Club.

Division four lost to Rich River Green 39-46 and both rinks went down. This loss also cost Lockington top spot on the ladder, with Deniliquin RSL moving into that position. However, it finished in the top two and will meet Deniliquin RSL in the second semi-final on Saturday at Mathoura.

Results from Saturday: Bill Musgrove lost to George Clarence 22-23; Frank Chugg lost to J. Exton 17-23.

Best of luck and good bowling to all participating clubs.

The club competitions are under way with several games behind time. Results so far in the President’s Trophy 21-Up championship: Ken Main d Russell Shawcross 21-19; Neil Haines d Graham Turner; Dave Thomas d Geoff Shawcross.

In the 100-up championship, Brian Kinnane received a walkover from Chris Stewart, Ken Main d John van den Bosch and Steve Pavone d Andy Harris. The B-grade championship is due to be played.

Several members travelled to local tournaments during the week. Three teams played the prestigious Tinning Triples at Tongala on Sunday. Leanne McInnes won a raffle prize and the teams managed a couple of wins during the day. The event was won by a Tinning trio — father Barry Tinning (lead) and sons Brad (third) and Jarryd (skipper). The team defeated Rob Anset’s trio in a three-end play-off. It was quite a unique achievement for the Tinning family on this special day.

Members also journeyed to Calivil for the pairs tournament. No results to hand at the time of print.

The club will hold the popular Echuca Toyota open fours on Sunday, March 20, starting at 9.30am. The tournament will consist of four games of 10 ends. Contact Chris Stewart on 0439 834 207 (text only) or Russell Shawcross on 0428 862 468 for entries.

The women will be holding the annual invitation fours in April.

Moama RSL

Twenty players played three games of eight ends on Monday, March 7.

The winners on 47 points were P. Reyment (skip), J. Vanlee (third) and M. McFadzean (lead).

Runners-up with 43 points were R. Panozzo (skip), B. Healey (third), C. Glass (second) and P. Allez (lead).

Consolation prizes went to N. Hardy, L. Prott and P. Benson.

Seaford RSL and Moama RSL indoor bowls teams played off for the Cynthia Smith Memorial Trophy on Saturday. Five teams from each club played, with Moama RSL the outright winner with a 184-96 victory
