Rich River Croquet Club hosted its yearly GC Open Singles Tournament from Friday October 7 to Sunday October 9.
Thirty-six members representing 14 clubs came from many parts of Victoria. Each day was dedicated to a separate division playing in two or three blocks and a final between block winners to determine winner and runner-up.
Division 3 (handicaps 9 to 12) played on Friday in drizzly conditions. Veronica Richardson of Twin City was the winner over husband Geoff Richardson, also from Twin City, 7/5. May have led to a tense trip back to Albury.
On Saturday, blue skies greeted the Division 2 (handicaps 6 to 8) players. The first semi-final between David Maher (Rich River) and Les Matthews (Drysdale) resulted in Les winning 7/6.
In the second semi-final, Ed Chatwin (Ringwood) also won 7/6 over Wayne Comer, Shepparton. Les and Ed then played the final with Les edging out Ed 7/5.
Finally, Division 1 (handicaps-1 to 5) competed on Sunday. Block winners John James, (Deniliquin) and Richard Parks (Monash) entertained the spectators with another thrilling display of croquet and a 7/6 win to John.
