The Rich River Golf Croquet Club Championships were held on Monday and Tuesday of this week with very exciting games across all three divisions.

In division one, Russ Smyth played Ian Grant in a best-of-three competition. The result was Russ coming in ahead in two hard fought games 7-6, 7-5.

In division two, four players battled it out in a very close competition with the result coming down to the final game.

Ruth Mole and Helen Brierley went into the last game with three wins each.

With six hoops each, Ruth and Helen fought over the 13th hoop for about 10 minutes, neither giving their opposition an inch.

Helen prevailed, taking the 13th hoop and the title of division two champion.

Division three was even closer. From a field of five, Fiona Larcombe and Sandra Retallick went into the last game with Fiona on three wins and Sandra on two.

This game also went to the 13th hoop, with Sandra winning 7-6 giving them both an overall total of three wins and seven nett hoops each.

The countback was decided Sandra's way as she had defeated Fiona, making Sandra our division three champion.

The Championships were enjoyed by all players, and our thanks go to members who organised the event and prepared the courts.

Congratulations Russ, Helen and Sandra who will now represent Rich River at the GVCA Champion of Champions in March.

In club play on Thursday, February 16, 17 players braved the heat to play singles.

Only one player, Alan Holding, won all three games and Greg Brierley was runner-up.

Kaye Joyce, Surong Gunn and Alan all scored a hoop-in-one.

Members enjoyed playing Kingball last Saturday.

Sixteen members arrived today to very sunny and hot conditions.

Most of our members have managed to play almost every other member to try to complete our Club Championship competitions.

That means most of our members have played at least 12 competition games.

A few of our new members not being included in the championship competition have been busy using the end court to play doubles together.

One of these new members, Rolly Griffiths, managed three out of four great jump shots, one of these being from about 4m on a very difficult angle.
