Thursday, September 30

Craig Opie raced into the winner's enclosure from Scoob Nichols and Chad Jones.

David O’Dea won by a couple of lengths from Danny Powell and Geoff Burke in B grade.

Leigh Robbins had the score of the day to win C grade from Brian ‘BJ’ Harland and Aaron McMaster. Lachie Webb eagled the par four 15th, which is no mean feat, and Neil Moresco hit one to 19cm on the 16th to claim the super-pin.

A grade: 1st Craig Opie (41 points); 2nd Andrew Nichols (40); 3rd Chad Jones (38).

B grade: 1st David O’Dea (40 points); 2nd Danny Powell (38); 3rd Geoff Burke (38).

Saturday, October 2

Men: Steve Morgan shot a sub-par round to win the monthly medal in Saturday’s event. Ron Meikle pipped Keith McCormack in B grade and Ted Retallick took the C grade honours.

Steven Jones eagled the 11th on his way to win the A grade scratch with Glenn Albert and newcomer and big improver Matthew Bell winning the B and C grade scratch respectively.

A grade: 1st Steve Morgan (nett 65); 2nd Paul Elliott (67); 3rd Steven Jones (72 scratch).

B grade: 1st Ron Meikle (nett 67); 2nd Keith McCormack (67); 3rd Glenn Albert (80 scratch).

C grade: 1st Ted Retallick (nett 68); 2nd Alan Peach (70); 3rd Matthew Bell (88 scratch).

Ladies: Jessica Cox had a great round to win the Star Award with Sue Jenkinson still on a high from the Demons’ win last week to claim second place.

Colleen Armstrong was third, showing she is the in-form member of the household.

Karen ‘Fitzy’ Fitzgerald is a regular winner of the super-pin, again claiming the prize pool.

A grade: 1st Jessica Cox (nett 67); 2nd Sue Jenkinson (69); 3rd Colleen Armstrong (70).

Sunday, October 3

There have been some good scores recorded on the East course over the past few weeks and Sunday was no exception, Steve Jones coming in with 41 stableford points and the countdown going to 34.

Overall: 1st Steve Jones (41); 2nd Simon Putna (38 c/b); 3rd Justin McAuley (38).

Monday, October 4

Nine-holes: There were 30 women in the field and Lorraine De Ravin had a great score, coming in with 21 points for the nine holes, followed by Jessica Cox with 20.

Overall: 1st Lorraine De Ravin (21); 2nd Jessica Cox (20); 3rd Carolyn Smith (18).

18-hole medley: Once again, scores in the 40s were the order of the day and Stewart Grant took first place with 44 stableford points, four clear at the top of the 54-strong field.

Overall: 1st Stewart Grant (44); 2nd Ashley Smith (40 c/b); 3rd Axyl Lewis (40).

Tuesday, October 5

Stojko Kresojevic parred the course to take out A grade from Neil Edwards and the in-form Craig Opie.

It was a countback to decide all the placings in B grade with Potsie Webber surely going to let Geoff Kelly know his thoughts on being runner-up.

Malcolm Arnold had a very good score to hold off Terry Cargill and Les Hinton for the C grade major prize.

The live leaderboard had Wayne Eden on target for a mid-40s point score so many are interested to hear how he managed to claim defeat from the jaws of victory.

Wednesday, October 6

Eighty-three women took to the course on Wednesday in glorious sunshine, a welcome break from the recent wind and rain. Top scores in both divisions again broke the 40-point mark.

A grade: 1st Elizabeth Pollock (41); 2nd Dianne Paterson (39); 3rd Winnie Lavery (38).

B grade: 1st Denise Neal (40 c/b); 2nd Ann McPherson (40); 3rd Lucille George (39).

The final of the Clarice Cheatley Brooch has been deferred to Wednesday, October 27, due to the majority of the finalists being unable to play because of COVID-19 restrictions.

Lockington

The last hit of golf for the men for the 2021 season at Lockington was played on Saturday, and for something different, it was a 4BBB event.

The best score of the day was 43 points, returned by Jai and Gary Milligan, with Jai’s two four-pointers proving crucial.

Next best on a countback were Jeff and Darren Carnie, ahead of Daniel and Colin Bacon, also on a countback.

The Bacons sizzled on the first nine with 26 points before fading on the second nine with 17.

Other good scores on the day included Stuart Newton and Terry Thomas (40), Mark Lyons and Grant Humbert (40), John and Lynne Canavan (40), Matt Baulch and JD Wright (39), and Graeme and James Hodgens (39).

Nearest-the-pins on the third went to Andy Freemantle (A-grade), Ian Maddison (B) and Daniel Bacon (C).

On the seventh Grant Humbert (A-grade), Ian Maddison (B) and Mark Lyons (C) were closest.

Trav Mancer (A-grade), Ian Maddison (B) and Mark Lyons (C) were closest on the 16th, as were Andy Freemantle (A-grade), Barry Graham (B) and Jai Milligan (C) on the 17th.

James Hodgens was closest with his second shot on the 18th for the eight-pack smack.

Spike’s Longest Drive on the first, sponsored by Hot ‘n’ Cold Plumbing, went to Adam Gould (A-grade), Jeff Carnie (B) and JD Wright (C).

Thank you to all involved with the 2021 season, which has again proved to be very challenging.

Special thanks to retiring president Matt Baulch, who could not have copped two worse years to be president but did a mighty job in the circumstances.
