Stojko Kresojevic had a very good day finishing runner-up and winning the super-pin, but he couldn’t beat Ian Doak for the major A-grade prize. John Dunne had 21 points on the front nine and cruised over the line to win B-grade, while Gordan Jasch had another “flash” round to win C-grade.

The fourball event combined the C P Healey, Champions of the Murray and Match-play Qualifier, with Keith McCormack and Brian Suffolk having a big win. Brian took the super-pin as well and they will be hard to beat in the 16 pairs match-play knockout event. Trent Davidson and Aaron McMaster were runners-up with Brendan Kneebone and Ian Phillips in third place.

Jan McGuinness won for the second time in a week when she partnered Georgiana Azzopardi in the fourball best ball event. Fiona Simpson and Marcia Spiers are a very good fourball combination and were only second on a countback. Debbie Morden won the nearest-the-pin last Saturday and went one better this week winning the super-pin.

Nine Holes: Thirty-nine women turned out for the nine-hole stableford round in two grades and Virginia Noar had the best score of the day with 20 points to take the B-grade win. Wendy Williams won A-grade with 19 points on a countback to Carol Schulz.

Visitor Barry Tippet from Queens park GC shot three under par to take the A-grade honours. Bill Patterson edged out Bill Holmfield in B-grade and Gerard Ryan Beat Dannie Lavery and Ray Steele in C-grade. Craig Spiers had his second eagle in as many days, John Clancy eagled the first and Dave Borthwich eagled the par four seventh hole, a great achievement.

A field of 123 women played a stableford round on the west course in beautiful golfing conditions. The main prize for the day was the Clarice Cheatley Brooch which was won for the month of May by Nacole Horneman with 40 stableford points, also taking the A-grade win. B and C-grades were won by Karen Slater and Thelma Callanan respecttively, both with 39 points. Sally Gough had her best shot of the day to take out the super-pin.

Murray River Challenge
Sunday was Rich River's turn to host the annual Murray River Challenge, a mixed fourball stableford event between Rich River and Murray Downs. Scores were close and home team members Rosalie and Len Drill took the honours with 44 stableford points, with fellow locals Colleen Lynch and Matt Jean close behind on 43. Lisa Jean and Luke Merritt from Murray Downs filled third place with 42.
Murray Downs took the trophy home with an average score of 38.8 points, just ahead of Rich River with a 38.4 average. Next years event will be at Murray Downs on April 23.
