Lockington Bowls Club
A quiet week on the western front as the wet weather had a dramatic effect on the playing of bowls on most days.
Thankfully, the members were able to shine at the Wednesday Scrounge event.
Three rinks were in operation, and the results showed some pretty competitive competition.
On rink one, the talented Russell Shawcross managed 59 points to edge out a couple of fledgling bowlers in John Andrea 49 and Shane Felmingham, on 38 points.
Next door, Ray Hanson was in magnificent form to score 57 points ahead of Club President John van den Bosch, just one point shy on 56 points while Cindy Felmingham battled gamely for 26.
The final rink proved a much closer competition with Steve Pavone winning with 53 points ahead of Poss Andrea 44 and Phillip Cunnington 42 points.
All bowlers appreciated the after-bowls serving of party pies and sausage rolls. A treat to eat.
Members have been attending local tournaments and having limited success.
August is a big month with several Open Fours tournaments scheduled for Mathoura and Echuca.
The funeral for Brian Watts will be held on Tuesday, July 29, with service and wake at the Lockington Bowls Club at noon. Burial at 11am.

A halved match with Murray Downs from the Rich River Division One scratch team has left the door open for three other teams to make the grand final.
Warwick Newman and Reece Thompson had good wins, and D’Arcy Whyte halved his match to have the team in second place with one round to go.
The second team can also make the grand final with a win in the last round, and if results go its way.
The Division Two handicap team had a good five matches to two win over Cohuna, with Marcia Spiers, Sue Byrne, Nicole Mitchell, Solie Welch and Sean Burns all having wins.
A win in the last round at Kerang on Sunday could see the team make the grand final, to be held at Murray Downs in two weeks.
Rochester Golf Club
The Ladies played their final championship round last Friday.
This year's winner was declared after the total of the best two scores recorded over the last three weeks.
As predicted, multiple and current champion Louise Williams easily won with her consistent scores of 87 and 86 for a total of 173.
Leisa Evans was the runner-up, shooting 94-94 (188).
The handicapped winner was Karen Taylor with 72-73 (145), from Evans, and Elaine Lees both on (149).
Elaine Lees won the main event on the day, scoring a fine net 73 on a countback from Taylor.
They both shared nearest-the-pin for their shots to the 3rd and 16th (Evans) and Taylor on the 8th.
Wednesday 9-hole social golf was Stableford on the back nine, and Kevin McCormack won with 22 points from Peter Mulcahy on a countback from David Gebbie, both with 20 points.
They were followed by Shane Bywaters, Chris Eeles, and Peter Anderson, all with 19 points.
Anderson was nearest to the pin on 5, and Mulcahy for his nice shot to the 16th scrape.
