The Murray Bombers were clinical from start to finish in gritty conditions at Kyabram, running out 38-25 victors to get their season rolling.
Echuca held a seven-goal advantage at quarter-time and never looked back, with coach Belinda Lees crediting her squad’s resilience in a “physical” encounter.
“I was incredibly proud of the group to show such strength and resilience to bounce back after round one in what were pretty difficult conditions,” Lees said.
“They did an exceptional job.”
Jorja Oliver and Lees gelled well in the goal ring for Echuca, while Lily Devlin made her mark through the midcourt, earning high praise from her coach.
“Lily Devlin played wing attack and I thought she really dominated it,” Lees said.
“She provided that agility that we needed.
“Jorja did really well playing goal shooter all game and I really relied on her, too. I felt great confidence in her ability in the circle.”
Lees said it was pleasing to see the four-quarter performance built on the squad’s young guns.
“Seeing the young girls continually develop and implement small things we’re working on and starting to believe in their capabilities is a reward we’re seeking in every game,” she said.
“I’m hoping that’s what we continue to see.”
