Echuca executed an upset result over Moama in the division two final, the third-placed side overthrowing the minor premier on Campaspe Playing Area weekend pennant final day on Saturday.
The rink skipped by Michelle Cunnington proved the difference for Echuca, her squad prevailing 31-10 over a Darren Yates-led side to set up the 66-51 overall win at Moama Bowling Club.
Pat Schram was also successful for Echuca, scoring the victory 22-15 over Roy Jackson.
Trevor Eastwell’s rink was promising for Moama, his side getting up 26-13 over Lee Beattie, but the margins across the greens had gotten away from the Steamers.
It was a big turnaround over the season from Echuca, which lost its round two meeting with Moama 0-44 to 16-63.
After grabbing third spot, the champion ran through Rich River in the semi-final but only made the decider by a single shot, 66-65 over Stanhope in the preliminary final.
Moama had previously lost only twice in the season, to two sides that didn’t make finals at all, but couldn’t add the pennant to a strong overall campaign.
