There were some battles in the Campaspe Playing Area weekend pennant on Saturday, but things didn’t go all the favourites’ way.

Echuca stayed unbeaten to keep its place on top, but Rich River shocked Stanhope in the round’s big upset.
Rochester visited Echuca Bowls Club to battle the league leader and made a good account of itself in the 14-61 to 2-54 result.

Echuca had the running of the Philip Thorn led rink, taking down Leigh Milgate’s contingent 26-15.
Steve Cunnington also earned points for Echuca, but had to fight hard against Richard Feuk’s quartet, only prevailing 17-16.

Rochester skip Leslie Walles guided his side to victory in the remaining rink, scoring a 23-18 victory.
At Stanhope, the unbeaten host was unseated by a shot, Rich River getting the job done 12-67 to 4-66.
Stanhope had the running of two rinks, Robert Ponton (25-20) and Ben Fletcher (22-18) both masterminded victories for the favourite.

However, Keith Hewitt and his squad of Eugene Xodo (lead), Graeme Moffat (second), and Alan Polak (third) swung the game in Rich River’s favour with a 29-19 win, flipping the overall result to the visitor.
Moama dented Kyabram’s confidence at Moama Bowling Club, scoring a 14-66 to 2-50 win.
Jock Linehan led the Steamers’ best rink, running up a 29-15 scoreline, while Geoffrey Beattie also earned points for Moama, 18-14.

The last match of the round had Mathoura stay winless, falling 14-61 to 2-52 to Deniliquin.

Conway Bovell was responsible for most of the margin, skipping his rink to a 24-14 win.
Shane Laing edged another rink for Deni, while Mick Humphreys picked up points for Mathoura 23-21.
Tongala moved into fifth after scoring maximum points with the bye.

Lower divisions
In division two, Moama remained on top after a nail-biter with Stanhope, 12-58 to 4-57, while Kyabram edged out Deniliquin 15-57 to 1-54.
Echuca smashed Tongala 16-63 to 0-39, while Rich River had the bye.
Division three had Lockington score strongly against Tongala, 14-75 to 2-52, and Rich River dominate Stanhope 16-65 to 0-43.
Elmore survived Deniliquin 12-62 to 4-58, while Kyabram squeaked by Moama 14-51 to 2-50 and Echuca won a close one against Rochester 14-54 to 2-52.
In division four, Lockington won all three rinks over Tongala 16-68 to 0-45, while Moama did the same over Kyabram 16-74 to 0-42.
Rich River proved too strong for Deniliquin RSL 14-61 to 2-45, Mathoura snagged a close win over Ky Valley View 12-59 to 4-55 and Echuca hung on to defeat Rochester 12-55 to 4-53.
Lockington took down Echuca Blue in division five, 14-41 to 0-32, while Echuca White had more success against Rochester, winning 14-49 to 0-27.
The Deniliquin derby had Blue prevail over White 12-45 to 2-37, Moama powered through Kyabram 14-49 to 0-21, while the result between Stanhope and Rich River wasn’t available.
