As expected, numbers were good with 25 starters setting their sights set on being crowned club champion.
After some unpredictable weeks for A-grade, five riders took to the line with the aim of being club champ. Would the perennial placegetter Jack Arnold get up? Had Troy and George Griffiths hatched a plan? How would Kevin Laffy go after missing a few races, and what were Max Trewhella's chances?
With a very even field, the A-grade race was at times very watchful with short sharp surges generally being rapidly matched by the bunch. Troy Griffiths did some big laps on the front as they approached the finish line to receive the bell for the final lap, and the race was set up for a bunch finish.
The end of daylight savings is still a couple of weeks away. However, down the back straight it was Kevin Laffy looking to turn back the clock as he took the lead.
As the riders came into view, Jack Arnold looked to have one hand on the trophy until Max Trewhella stormed home to win by a wheel, with Kevin Laffy in third.
B-grade
A big group of nine riders set off in B-grade with Chhay Williams throwing his hat in the ring in his first race of the season.
The pace was intense early as Nick McNair and Nick Woods broke the field up, forcing the group to work together to keep in the race. Unfortunately for Chhay the pace was too high, but order was restored and the bunch reformed.
The pace was unrelenting, in fact they would average 42-43km/h for the journey. Despite the attacking efforts of the usual suspects Matt Sherman, Francis Lias and Nick McNair, the elastic band never snapped.
Ben Oman rode with a permanent grimace but stayed in touch, and there was nothing in it.
As the bell sounded for the final lap, there was chatter on the sidelines of who would win, down the back straight it looked like Francis could be too strong.
As they approached the finish it was the sprinters Nick Woods and Bryce Denham who would fight it out, with Bryce getting his nose across the line, Nick second and Jamie Soares in third in a great ride.
C-grade
Once again the kettle boiled early as Will set off on his usual blistering start, this time Claire Goodman and Liam Clohosey went with him and the group looked to work together.
Back in the bunch there was indecision on whether to bridge the gap or be patient. There was 20 minutes to go, surely they couldn't stay away. After five minutes the group came back together but the pace stayed high.
At the midway point, Darren McKemmish changed things up with a withering burst, but the bunch didn't panic and he was brought back to the fold.
From that point it slowed in a classic case of club champs syndrome with no-one wanting to put it on the line, that is until Will Kettle came past wide to surge off the front.
As the bell sounded for the final lap, the seven riders were tightly bunched, each fancying their chances of victory.
In a chaotic finish, weaving through the A-grade field it was Darren McKemmish across the line first from Darren Kruger second and Liam Clohosey third.
D-grade
The bunch had a familiar feel with John and Georgie Jenkins, Zenon, Heather and Paul Oman setting off.
As has been the way in D-grade, no-one wanted to show their cards early and the bunch stayed together with a very even contribution from all riders.
As time ticked by, the pace dropped as the group waited for someone else to make the move. The cat and mouse moves stopped as they were greeted by the bell, the race was on, who would have the legs?
As the riders came into view near the finish, John Jenkins had a narrow lead from a fast-finishing Heather Lias and Paul Oman.
John has had a great season and he finished strongly and held the lead to win with Heather second and Paul third. Well done to all D-grade riders in 2023-24.
