The Emus, still smarting from their previous round loss to Melton, were keen to get back on the winner’s list.
After their big win against the Crays in round one this year at home, they went into this one with some confidence.
Transportation issues for Echuca-Moama caused a delayed start to this game, to be held in cold but sunny conditions.
From the opening bounce, the Emus were looking a little flat and sluggish, which saw the Crays kick the first couple of goals, however the Emus managed to pull one back through big full-forward Clint Jurey.
By quarter-time the Crays led three goals to one.
The second quarter started much better for the Echuca-Moama team, with Adam Davidson and Josh Hunter running rampant through the midfield.
The Emus were quick to gain ascendency through their influence, and with Justin Voss gaining dominance in the ruck, saw more goals to Jurey and two for the quarter to Ash Formosa.
Lucas Walker was also having a big influence in the midfield and up forward, with plenty of touches and a goal to add to the Emu’s tally, and defender Peter Spencer was switched to the forward to add another goal.
By half-time the Emus had gained the lead, and were determined not to give it up again in the third term, which in recent games had been a problem quarter for them.
That was not the case this time around, as they maintained control of the game in the second half.
The Crays were able to peg a couple of goals back, but their inaccuracy and defensive pressure from Echuca back-men Kevin Dunque, Lyndon Neville and Aaron Prewett, as well as another goal to Jurey, stopped the Emus from giving up their lead.
The final quarter saw more goals to Echuca-Moama with another to Walker, Jurey and Hunter. In the end, the result was a relatively comfortable win to the Emus, who have now won three from five games for 2022.
