Wines was at his destructive best to keep Port Adelaide’s season alive, tallying 34 touches – 14 contested – in the Power’s upset of Sydney.
The Port vice-captain was a crucial cog in the 12.10 (82) to 8.11 (59) win at Adelaide Oval, and speaking to Port Adelaide media post-game said it was a confidence-instilling win, with midfield partner Zak Butters and debutant Brynn Teakle out through injury early in the clash.
“That’s a key moment in our season, to show the resilience we did with only three on the bench for three quarters,” Wines said.
“It’s one of those wins that you need just to reassure yourself that you’re going in the right direction.
“We know we’re in the hunt and we know we need to win a lot of games but we think we’re a really good footy side.”
Port Adelaide currently sits 12th with a 6-7 record, two games outside the top eight with nine games to play in the home-and-away season.

In the Victorian Football League, several Goulburn Valley League stars picked up wins.
For Rochester’s Joe Atley, round 13 was the continuation of a strong season for Essendon’s VFL outfit.
Atley leads the Bombers in several key statistics midway through the 2022 season, including clearances (7.5) and tackles (5.9), and is third in average disposals.
Atley was a key part of the Bombers’ third straight win at the weekend, accruing 23 disposals, four tackles and five clearances in a 14-point triumph over Sandringham.
Under Friday night lights Echuca product Brodie Kemp picked up a win with Carlton Reserves, registering 14 touches and four marks in the Blues’ win over Footscray.
While Geelong was soundly beaten by Werribee, Echuca’s Jack Evans provided a bright spark with 17 touches and a goal.
The Cats, 13th, now sit tied with five other teams on 24 premiership points, still right in the mix for VFL finals, while Carlton is a game ahead in fifth.
