Corowa Rutherglen Football Netball Club has also recruited strong forward Christian Masson Moyle and welcomes back another strong forward James Svarc.
Mobile 200cm (6’6”) full forward Sam Dunstan will complement new centre-half-forward Darcy Hope beautifully.
“Sam and Darcy will be one of the best one/two punches in the O and M league,” Corowa’s assistant coach Ben Talarico told The Free Press.
The Roos finally snared Dunstan on Tuesday last week. “We’re rapt to get Sam,” Talarico said. “He’ll be massive. My friends speak highly of him.
“Sam’s in his mid-20s and about to enter the prime of his career. He’s a glorious kick for goal. We’re excited to see how Sam goes in this competition.”
Then over the weekend, Christian Masson Moyle signed up and in other good news, James Svarc is coming back.
“We are rapt to recruit Christian and to have James back. Christian is from St Kevin’s Old Boys in the Victorian Amateur league. He moves very well and is very, very skilful. And we know how good James is,” coach Steve Owen told The Free Press.
And on Monday it was further good news with the acquisition of Nathan Dunstan, also a 200cm footballer who will play ruck. Every club needs the types of recruits the Roos have snared for 2024. It was a very happy Owen conveying the news, to have the two brothers lining up in blue and white.
Sam Dunstan’s accurate kicking between the two biggest sticks has landed him big bags of goals including a massive 20 in one game for Hepburn in the Central Football League in 2021.
Last season he kicked 93 goals for Donald in the North Central Football League then added another 40 with Southern Districts in the Northern Territory Football League.
Dunstan’s brilliant junior career included a starring role for Victorian Country Under 19 victory over Victorian Amateur Football Association in 2016 – the year he was also representing Ballarat Football League against Goulburn Valley at the MCG.
The highly rated forward is one of at least 46 players who will be at the Roos’ pre-season camp based at John Foord Oval on the weekend of March 16 and 17. The recruitment program hasn’t ended yet.
Nathan also hails from Donald; he and his brother will make a big presence on the field for Corowa.
Netball boost for Roos
In more good Corowa Football Netball Club news, Corowa has been boosted with the recruitment of Indianna Frauenfelder from Yarrawonga.
The ready-made A Grader is no stranger to the O&M, playing for Yarrawonga previously where she made her A grade debut at just 15 years old.
It was at the Pigeons where she tasted the ultimate success in the O&M, winning a double premiership, with the under 17s & A grade teams in 2017. She is also a past O&M representative and O&M rising star winner.
Indi brings a high energy to the Roos, as a GA/WA her speed, game smarts and ability to find space in the ring are something to marvel!
“We can’t wait to see her in action at John Foord round 1 - Easter weekend,” club secretary Rowena Black said.
“Last Saturday we had a camp based at John Foord Oval and we used the aquatic centre and the tennis club. It was great to use the community facilities. We had 30 girls at the bonding camp and it was terrific.”
Rowena said the club is very happy as to how recruitment and pre-season are proceeding. “We’re all excited about how we’re shaping up for the season,” she said.
