Are the Cats destined for finals?

After the Goulburn Murray Junior League under-14 division one side finished with the wooden spoon in 2024, it appears Mooroopna is on to greener pastures after recording its second win this season.

Condemning Shepparton United to its fourth-straight defeat, the Cats have established an early position inside finals calculations following Sunday’s crushing victory.

Producing a solid buffer early, Mooroopna never looked back once it pounced on a first-term lead, tallying 34 scoring shots en route to a 15.19 (109) to 5.1 (31) victory at Mooroopna Recreation Reserve.

Slight inaccuracy from the Cats kept the Demons alive in the contest at the end of the first quarter, trailing by 16 points.

However, with one scoring shot to Shepparton United’s name at quarter-time, it was clear Mooroopna was a chance to have a field day if it continued to apply scoreboard pressure.

The Cats would up the scoring rate across the next two quarters, scoring 4.6 (30) and 5.5 (35) respectively to push their lead out to 68 points.

The boys in hoops cruised through the final term with the four premiership points undoubtedly remaining at Mooroopna, ultimately sending the Demons packing with a 78-point loss.

A remarkable eight-goal haul from Mooroopna skipper Kobe Freer was the catalyst behind the landslide result, although Elijah Phillips was admirable in defeat with four of Shepparton United’s five majors.
