While season dates and details had not been set at the time of writing, there will still be two senior divisions and three junior divisions hitting the court from October to March.
Senior teams feature four men and four women, with 13 ties contested in the round, consisting of a handful of singles matches followed by various men’s, women’s and mixed doubles pairings taking to the court.
Rochester 1 is the reigning division 1 champion, downing Echuca 2 in the grand final, with Echuca 5 taking out the division two championship over LBU 2.
In the CTA Junior competitions, Tongala 1 holds the title in Division A, Rich River 1 in Division B and Echuca 20 in Division C.
Echuca Tennis Club president Chris Potter said that while the CTA had yet to confirm details regarding the upcoming season, his club’s preparation was going well, including help from tennis coach David Starling.
“Our preparation for the season is going well so far; it is still August, so we are a little while off yet,” he said.
“Numbers are looking good so far, and coaching wise we’ve still got David Starling, so that is really good.
“He’s been doing some great things with the schools and our club, so the facility is still getting used quite a bit, so it’s going well.
“He’s really trying to grow tennis in the region, he coaches three nights a week, and he does group and singles lessons, so that helps us grow.
“We’ll field similar numbers to last year, and we are hoping to get more adults playing. The junior side of our club is pretty strong, we had 70 junior kids playing tennis on a Saturday morning.
“That number is fantastic, not only for our club but for the town as well, to get more kids out playing sport.
“We are definitely excited for the season ahead, everyone loves getting out in the sun, get some exercise because it’s nice and warm.”
The association is still finalising plans for the new season but expects to have draws available in the coming weeks.
