Jason ‘Dizzy’ Gillespie will spend an evening with Echuca Cricket Club on Tuesday, February 3.
The 71-Test veteran will be in attendance for the club’s training session at 5.30pm, and will follow on at the Echuca Workers from 7pm to 9pm at a ticketed evening event where he will share stories and highlights from his career.
Gillespie took 259 Test wickets at an average of 26.13 in a 10-year period between 1996 and 2006, and was a key member of one of the country’s most iconic bowling attacks, most commonly alongside Shane Warne, Glenn McGrath and Brett Lee.
He also played 97 One Day Internationals, taking 142 wickets at 25.42.
Not renowned for his batting (averaging 18.73 in Tests) Gillespie famously set the world record score for a nightwatchman (201 not out) against Bangladesh on his 31st birthday in what would be his final Test match appearance.
After his on-field career, Gillespie has been active in non-playing roles, including coaching stints with T20 franchises in the Indian Premier League and Big Bash League, and taking the reins of Pakistan’s Test squad in 2024.
