Five local girls were among 600 of the best young footballers from across regional Victoria to participate in the V/Line Cup in Shepparton last week.
The four-day carnival is usually held in September each year but was postponed in 2021 because of the pandemic.
Paige Duffy, Maddison Ibrahim, Hannah Loughnan, Trinny Preer and Mia Spiteri were initially selected in the restricted age group of mainly under 15 in 2021 before the postponement but got chance last week to show their skills.
The V/Line Cup comprises three divisions – two boys divisions and a girls division – and features representative teams from seven regions playing in a total of 21 matches. Each team contested two matches over the four days. A girls division has been part of the program since 2010.
The local girls featured well in both their matches with Paige Duffy receiving best for the North East Border team against Barwon and Maddison Ibrahim and Hannah Loughnan among the best players in the team’s convincing win against Goulburn Murray. Paige also captained the team in their second match.
