Some ridiculous feats including a phenomenal 145 off just 77 deliveries, as well as a big 161-run partnership, headlined the lower grades action from round four of the Goulburn Murray Cricket competition.
Bill Williams Goulburn B-grade
A brilliant knock of 76 runs from Elmore captain James Harney wasn’t enough for the Redbacks to pinch a win against Kyabram Fire Brigade, with the Flames prevailing by nine runs.
Batting first, Kyabram posted a total of 6-157 off the back of 31 from each of Lachlan Carver and Trevor Watts, while Harney did the damage with the ball, taking 3-19.
Harney nearly dragged his side across the line, supported by Tyler Oliver (23), however the Flames proved too strong, with Rikki Busch and Oliver Barnett both claiming figures of 3-31.
Moama crushed Northern United by 142 runs.
Electing to bat, Moama started strongly through Matthew Stone (89) and Stuart Taylor (70), who put on 161 runs for the second wicket. Angus McKindlay bowled well for the Goats, taking 3-44 from his eight overs.
Alex Kidd (3-8) and Dylan Jenkins (2-11) were able to get on top with the ball for Moama, ending the Goats innings for 89 after just 27 overs.
BLU was able to defend its total of 114 against Rushworth, with Darren Petersen (35) and Jake Toll (31) making significant contributions with the bat.
Thomas Stevens (3-13) battled well with the ball for Rushworth, however his side was no match with the bat, rolled for 44 in less than 18 overs thanks to BLU’s Lucas Holgate (4-14) and Jake Toll (3-13).
Stanhope was able to get the better of Echuca, backing up a solid total of 8-193 with some great bowling.
Jonathan Pearson (52) and Luke Twynstra (35) led the way with the bat for Stanhope, while Nick Dolan (3-30) was Echuca’s best with the ball.
Connor Shannon (52) was great in the chase for Echuca, as was Dolan (45), however the visitors fell 26 runs short, all out for 167.
Bill Williams Murray B-grade
Tongala has defended its total of 5-168 to claim a 65-run win over Leitchville-Gunbower.
Braith Northausen (37 not out) and Alistar Smith (33) led the way for the Blues, who batted first, while Matthew Pollock (2-33) was the pick of L-G’s bowling attack.
Liam Keath played a lone hand in Leitchville-Gunbower’s chase, posting 36 at the top, with the only other double-digit score coming from Trayden Tonso (10) at number nine, with L-G’s innings coming to a close at 9-103.
Girgarre made light work of Rochester in their clash, bowling the visitors out for 67 before chasing down the required total with nine wickets to spare.
Rex Taylor (3-10) and Shaun Doolan (3-12) wreaked havoc with the ball for the Kangaroos, restricting Kian Verrall and Glen Moroney to 10 each as Rochy’s top scorers.
Connor Cowley made 34 not out as Girgarre reached 1-70 in the 16th over, while Cale James claimed Rochester’s only wicket when he dismissed Shaun Doolan for 19.
Colbinabbin romped to victory against Cooma courtesy of a ridiculous Hamish Hooppell knock, with the opener blasting 145 off 77 balls.
Hooppell’s knock powered his side to a total of 209, with Peter Fawcett taking 3-3 with the ball for Cooma.
Hunter Fawcett’s 23 proved the top score for Cooma, who were skittled for just 88 in reply, with Hooppell again doing the damage, taking 3-9.
Nondies-Cohuna set Echuca South a target of 143 for victory in their clash, which the home side reached with ease to win by eight wickets.
A gritty captain’s knock of 70 not out from Gregory Moorhouse led Nondies-Cohuna to 6-142, with Akila Senanayake South’s best bowler, claiming 3-23.
But the 143 was not enough to stop the might of Echuca South openers Thomas Morphett (50) and Kaydn Blachford (64), who put on 135 for the first wicket to go within whiskers of reaching the total for no loss.
Gus Underwood C-grade
Moama recorded a big 107-run win against Tongala, bowling the home side out for 131 after posting a big total of 238.
Moama’s James Simpson was the top-scorer with 61, while Kaj Huddle enjoyed the best bowling figures, claiming 2-15 for the visitors.
Stanhope recorded a strong 23-run victory over Girgarre, defending its total of 6-164 to bowl the Kangaroos out for 141.
Stanhope’s Jack Hepburn was the top-scorer, smacking 70, while Lions skipper Shannon Aynsley picked up 3-16 as the best bowler from either side.
Results from Rochester vs Echuca South were unavailable at the time of writing, while Nondies-Cohuna forfeited against Echuca, and BLU and Kyabram Fire Brigade had their match cancelled.
Peter Raglus D-grade
Cooma beat Stanhope by seven wickets, reaching the 115 set for victory with six overs to spare.
Cooma’s Adam Hubble top-scored with 32, while Mark Tenace was the pick of the bowlers with 2-27.
Echuca thumped Tongala by 10 wickets in their clash, bowling the visitors out for 22 before chasing down the total in four overs.
Liam Beasley was the pick of the bowlers, taking 4-1, while Ashley Smith scored 15 of the 23 runs required for the win, finishing not out.
Kyabram Fire Brigade secured a 123-run victory over BLU at Kyabram’s Northern Oval, posting 8-198 before restricting the visitors to 9-75 in reply.
Brendan Fleming top-scored for the hosts on 66 not out, while Jack Elliott’s 3-11 were the best figures of any bowler.
The clash between Rushworth and Echuca South was cancelled.
