With the Murray River looking increasingly enticing on the eve of summer, the Victorian Barefoot Water Ski Club is hosting a ‘come-and-try’ weekend at Gunbower Creek on December 4 and 5.
Skiers of all abilities are being invited by the club to try their hand — or feet, in this case — at barefoot skiing over the two-day event this weekend, with a focus on women in sport.
Participants will receive introductory training, while skiers of higher capabilities can receive advanced guidance.
Water skiing is an undeniably popular pastime along the Murray River and while the barefoot variant is a niche method, it still holds great appeal for those opting to ditch the skis for the feet.
“It’s a ‘come and try’ set-up out at Gunbower,” VBWSB member and organiser Stuart Ball said.
“We’re basically getting the brand of barefoot water-skiing out there; people can come and try it and, if that’s their interest, there’ll be quite a few club members out there that can help.”
Registrations are being taken by Stuart Ball (0407 553 404) and Brad Shearer (0409434 322). The cut-off for registrations is 6pm Thursday.
