However, that doesn’t mean there isn’t plenty of sport to wrap your laughing gear around this weekend.
In the MFNL, Echuca United will be in action, travelling to Rumbalara in what will be a tough outing for both the senior football and A-grade netball units.
A finals berth is out of the question for the footballers and is statistically unlikely for the netballers, as they will face the undefeated defending champions on Saturday.
The netballers will get under way first at 1.30pm with the first bounce in the football slated for a 2pm start.
Both Leitchville-Gunbower and Lockington-Bamawm United will be fighting for the last senior football finals spot in the Heathcote District Football Netball League, while both teams are out of the running in the netball.
The Bombers will have an easier time of it in round 17 of the senior football, hosting lower seeded Elmore at Gunbower Recreation Reserve, while the Cats will host undefeated league-leaders North Bendigo at Lockington Recreation Reserve to keep their season alive.
Both the senior football and A-grade netball games will begin at 2.30pm.
It’ll be a clash of rivals Picola United and Mathoura in the Picola District Football Netball League as the Blues look to lock up a finals berth over the winless Timbercutters in the senior football, while both netball teams won’t feature in the 2025 finals.
As usual, the senior football clash will take place at 2.05pm, while the netball will begin at 1.30pm at Mathoura Recreation Reserve.
If the ‘World Game’ is more your speed, both Border Raiders Football Club’s men’s and women's sides will be in action this weekend.
The Central Victorian League 1 women’s side will play Strathfieldsaye Colts at Strathfieldsaye Recreation Reserve on Saturday at 3pm, while the Central Victorian League 2 men’s side will travel to Shadforth Park to take on Golden City on Sunday, August 10 at 3pm.
Echuca-Moama Hockey Club will also have a busy weekend with men’s and women’s teams in action across the region.
The A-grade men will play their round six Regional Hockey League match in Bendigo against Eaglehawk at 1.15pm on Sunday.
The B-grade unit will travel with the Green and White women’s sides to Shepparton Regional Hockey Complex on Saturday.
The B-grade men will play the Strikers at 2pm, the women’s White team will battle Shepparton Youth Club at 12.30pm and the women’s Green team will face Euroa at 3.30pm.
