With the scores level at the last break, the Cats were able to break away and seal a 34-24 triumph on their home deck under lights.
Perfect conditions for netball did not result in a free-flowing and high-scoring match.
Defenders at both ends of the court dominated in the hard-fought and physical game, while errors were in abundance in the attacking third.
The Cats’ Maddie Wong registered a best-on-court performance and was well supported in defence by young gun Dayna Williams.
And teenage talent Niamh Thorn starred under the ring for the Swans with her strong rebounds, while Klarindah Hudson provided quality pressure acts in goal defence.
The round five result leaves Mooroopna in third spot with four wins and the Swans locked in fourth with three wins.
Mooroopna coach Di Hanslow said she was thrilled her side — which was without Shelby Britten and Elle Brooks — was able to grind out victory.
“We are very happy to come away with the win, especially because we were without Shelby and Elle,” Hanslow said.
“It was a very tough game. It was physical and with high intensity, so the girls were finding it a bit exhausting out there because we normally have a few more players to draw from, but we didn't.
“I thought our defensive end were brilliant.
“Maddie was fantastic down there and Dayna did a great job along with her. Those two girls really kept us going while we adjusted up in attack.”
However, the win came at a cost for the Cats.
Mooroopna youngster Dakoda Emery left the court during the final term after a nasty fall.
The wing attack was helped to the bench and took no further part in the game.
“It was her second fall for the game and we all thought of the worst scenario. You could hear the thud from the bench,” Hanslow said.
“She is okay at the moment, but we are just monitoring her for concussion.”
Seymour clinched back-to-back victories with an emphatic performance over Kyabram.
The Lions, led by top performer Ellie O'Sullivan, brushed aside the Bombers with ease to claim a 64-23 victory.
Without key personnel, Seymour was able to seal victory with a dominant 17-4 second term.
Sarah Douglas and Lucy Zetti were the fellow standouts for the home side, while Kyabram's Shani Clark battled strongly in the loss.
Benalla delivered one of the upsets of the season with a 44-37 victory over Euroa.
The Saints sit one game out of the top-six, while the Magpies occupy 10th spot on the ladder.
Shepparton cruised to a 58-31 triumph over Mansfield and Rochester handed Tatura a 51-38 defeat.
Teenage star Teal Hocking was best-on for the Tigers, while Laura Ryan was Tatura's top performer.
