The Echuca Moama Hockey Club has pre-season activities beginning from this weekend, the club to take part in a past vs current players all-star fixture this Saturday, before holding an all-ages skills and development day on Sunday.
The action continues at the club’s home field, at Echuca College, the following Sunday, with another skills day followed by the official season kick-off, a practice match against Castlemaine Hockey Club.
“We're still waiting on the Goulburn Valley Hockey Association to notify us with the competition structure and such, but as a club, we're kicking things off even just more on a social side of things with the past and present game,” club secretary Bec Webb said.
“Just a bit of a fun afternoon for anyone who wants to join in and then on Sunday the 1st, we're doing a big season launch.”
The skills day on March 1 will be run by past E-M players who have played at state and premier league level, and is suitable for any skill level from juniors and beginners to experienced campaigners.
The club is also kicking off its junior on-boarding programs, with a school roadshow touring next week and Hookin2Hockey sessions for kids aged 5-10 starting on Thursdays from March 5.
That first Hookin2Hockey session will be free, and all equipment is provided throughout the program.
The club will also be holding several come-and-try trainings beginning with the first senior training, also on March 5, but the club says anyone’s first session can act as a free come-and-try regardless of date.
The 2026 Goulburn Valley Hockey Association season will begin on April 24, with Echuca Moama Green the defending women’s champion.
Players interested in joining the club can attend one of the club’s training sessions or events, or contact the club via the Echuca Moama Hockey Club Facebook page or at echucamoamahockey@gmail.com
