The V/Line Cup is one of the key pathway competitions for young footballers, giving under-15 players an opportunity to showcase their skills against the best young players in country Victoria.
The end goal for high performers is a place in the Coates Talent League with the Pioneers’ under-16s, the next step towards eventually entering the AFL or AFLW.
Eight Echuca boys were named in the Pioneers’ extended squad, which will be broken down into division one and two lineups, with emergencies, at a later date.
Charlie Sutton, Finn Murphy, Harrison Whan, Jackson Butterworth, Lynkoln Richardson, Macklan Dalziel, Oliver Spring and Xavier Carmichael were all selected.
Tongala’s Hugo Monnich Vo will also join the squad.
There is only one division for the girls’ competition and so the final 24-girl squad, with three emergencies, was named.
Local selections were plentiful, with Ava Plattfuss, Harper Delamare, Julia Taranto and Lily Dunham, all representing Echuca United, joining the squad.
Moama’s Ruby Morgan was also selected, while teammate Charlie Martin is listed as an emergency.
The V/Line Cup will be held in Ballarat from September 22 to 24.
