Kervin has been nominated in the Club Volunteer Award category following his work overseeing one of the biggest sporting events on the Echuca-Moama calendar, the annual Multisport Weekend.
The event attracted 140 athletes in 2022, and Kervin has been overseeing the local triathlon centrepiece for two years.
Kervin said it was “humbling” to be nominated for the state award, but paid tribute to his EMTC committee members.
“It was a real surprise,” Kervin said.
"I see the amount of work that the whole Echuca-Moama Tri Club committee do, and from my point of view I didn’t feel like I’ve done anything over and above the others.
“It’s really humbling.”
Broken up into the Morley Auto Group Sprint Triathlon on Saturday evening and Sunday’s Wharf to Winery 3km swim, the event attracts hundreds of adult and junior triathletes locally and from afar.
Kervin, a 14-year member of the EMTC, breaks the role of race director down to two conflicting emotions: complete terror and exhilaration.
“There’s so much going on, there’s so many things that you want to tick off,” Kervin said.
“Obviously there’s a lot of work that goes into an event of that nature given we have the three events on the one weekend.
“As the event becomes more professional, there’s more things we need to be adhering to in terms of regulation and safely.
“The last two years we’ve had the extra hurdle of COVID-19.
“At the end of the day I take pride in representing the club in terms of putting on a professional race.”
The nomination will ultimately be a fitting swansong for Kervin, who is poised to step down from the role for the next event in 2023.
“At this stage, it looks like I’m stepping down,” Kervin said.
“I’ve got a young family and I need to take them into account as well.
“It’s probably time for someone else in the club to take on that position.”
Kervin is now setting his sights on the Cairns Ironman in June, a challenge he is looking forward to.
“The last eight years I’ve been doing the longer distance ironman triathlons,” he said.
“I’m going up to Cairns in a month’s time. I’ve had a number of these events cancelled in the last few years so I’m really looking forward to this one going ahead.”
The 2022 Triathlon Victoria Annual Awards will take place on Sunday, May 22.
