With heavy hearts EMCC welcomed brothers Kevin and Neville Laffy, just days after the tragic loss of their brother Ron in a car accident.
The race would have a family feel to it, with Griffiths brothers Lenny and George joined by dad Troy, while Jack Arnold and Max Trewhella rounded out the group.
In another impressive display of aggressive riding, Max continued to put the hammer down on the front of the group with the strain being felt through the bunch.
Eventually Troy cracked and was dispatched, but the pace continued, and the rest of the group stayed together.
Into the final lap Max again led the way, but who would prove to be the strongest? Would Lenny be too powerful? Would Jack Arnold continue his winning ways? And remember, never rule out a Laffy in a bike race, particularly with Neville's recent run of form.
Into the final straight Lenny Griffiths kicked clear to be a comfortable winner from Jack Arnold, with a brave Neville Laffy in third.
B-grade
After a combined A/B-grade last week, order was restored with eight riders setting off.
With Francis Lias, Nick McNair and Cam Smith in the field, there was no chance of a steady pace, and so it proved, as Francis attacked early, drawing Nick McNair into a chase and leaving the group behind.
Nick was able to bridge the gap while at the rear of the field Alex and Jamie were under pressure and soon Bryce and Riley were also fighting to keep their race alive.
Perhaps sensing the urgency of the group of two off the front, or perhaps wanting to drop the sprint legs of Bryce, both Cam Smith and Nick Woods powered across in an impressive effort to form a group of four at the front.
Nick McNair grabbed the race by the scruff of the neck and rode clear into the final lap. On the back straight Francis made his move and led into the final straight to cross the line first with Nick Woods second and Cam Smith third.
C-grade
From the start it looked like handicapper Darren McKemmish might have regretted adding Riley, Jamie and Alex to the field after their short-lived B-grade race.
For the first 10 minutes, 6ft 4 inches-tall Matt Dobeli may have rued sitting behind Riley, the shortest in the field, but it was never going to last and soon he had some time to himself off the back.
With a punishing pace from Darren and Riley in particular, Claire was also dropped, and the group was down to five with Liam Clohosey riding strongly and Jamie showing why he has been a B-grade regular.
Into the final lap, would perennial bridesmaid ‘Dazza’ (McKemmish) finally get up?
In a powerful sprint he proved too strong, winning over Jamie, with Liam in third.
D-grade
In a bumper field, seven riders set off in D-grade, surely the largest field of the season, but how would it affect the racing?
Early in the race with a steady pace, hot favourite Mel Smolenaars seemed to be very comfortable sitting on the back. Was it part of the plan, or had a week in the world of banking and finance drained her account?
Despite the difficult conditions, D-grade worked well together, only losing Zenon off the back. Would John and Georgie Jenkins hatch a plan, or would the experience of Paul Oman come to the fore?
Into the bell lap the remaining six riders were still together and into the final straight it looked like Georgie Jenkins was going to ride her bright and shiny new bike to victory. However Mel had other ideas with a late charge up the outside to win ahead of Georgie in second and Paul Oman third.
