Following Moama’s Cameron Keenan, Kevin Anderson and Matt Robertson all moving on to the knockout rounds of the men’s singles, multiple female players have progressed to the same level in the women’s singles.
Three Moama bowlers Mackenzie Parsons, Olivia Cartwright and Cassandra Millerick will all feature in the last 128 of the women’s singles after sweeping their respective sections.
In the women’s pairs, Millerick partnering with Kylie Lavis (Vic) punched their ticket into the knockout round as well.
Keenan, Robertson and fellow Moama player Peter Campbell will feature in the first men’s pairs knockout round after finishing top of their respective sections.
Keenan and Joel Downey (Vic) and Moama tandem Robertson and Campbell fought their way through the sections and have earned themselves a bye in round one of the knockouts.
Moama’s Stuart Whyte and Stanhope’s Ben Fletcher weren’t quite so lucky, finishing second in their section with a 2-1 record, missing the knockouts by a hair.
Anderson and New Zealand partner Michael Carroll suffered the same fate, finishing 2-1 in their section and missing qualification to the knockouts.
The men’s and women’s fours competition began on Thursday, June 12 with multiple locals participating.
Keenan and Whyte are part of teams from across the nation, while Anderson has his pairs partner from across the pond in his team.
Moama duo Campbell and Robertson make up half of their team, while Rich River pairing Peter Nesbitt and Francis Millar have linked up with a couple of Queenslanders.
One foursome has a smattering of familiar bowls names with young gun Jacob Brighton teaming up with Stanhope’s Fletcher, Echuca’s Geoffrey Beattie and Echuca native Matthew Brighton.
In the women’s fours, Cartwright will team up with her pairs partner from Western Australia, Laura Butler, while Millerick’s unit features fellow Moama bowler Emma Simmonds.
Echuca bowlers Lee Beattie and Colleen Maslan will also look to make an impression with their team.
The knockout rounds for the men’s fours began on Friday, June 13 while the women’s fours, along with the men’s and women's singles and pairs knockouts will start on Saturday, June 14.
Sunday, June 15 will see the commencement of the mutli-disability and vision-impaired singles with the over-60s and under-18s events starting early next week.
