On the football field, Moama is set to come up against Finley away from home, with the two outfits both starting the season in similar fashion.
Having each recorded two wins and a loss from their first three matches, the Magpies and Cats look fairly evenly matched, and if last year’s encounters are anything to go by, Saturday’s showdown will be a ripper.
Facing each other twice, the two teams claimed a victory each last year, with Finley taking the spoils in round eight by 15 points — when Moama kicked 3.18 for the afternoon — while the Pies got their revenge in the semi-final with a tough 21-point triumph.
The Cats have faced arguably tougher opposition to start the season — recording a big win over Deni and scraping across the line against Mulwala, while falling in round two to Cobram by 42 points.
Moama on the other hand secured a big round-one win against Echuca United, while only narrowly accounting for Rumbalara and falling to Deniliquin last weekend, admittedly without a number of key personnel.
But with some experience expected to return to the side for the weekend’s match, expect the Magpies to be up and about as they look to match their 2023 start of 3-1.
Echuca United will fancy its chances of securing a first win under Scott Beattie in 2024 when it hosts Rumbalara.
Rumbalara is also winless so far this season, and present the young Eagles side with a really good test as it looks to continue its development.
United has shown glimpses across the previous two rounds, being within four goals at half-time against both Tongala and Cobram before fading as the match wore on.
Being able to compete across all four quarters is something that is expected to improve as the Eagles gain more on-field experience, given a large number of the side are still in the infancy of their senior football careers.
On the netball court, Moama will look to carry its momentum into the clash against the Cats following a brilliant four-goal win over Deniliquin last week.
They come up against a Finley side that is also in good form, having recorded wins over Cobram and Mulwala over the previous two weeks, with the clash set to be an entertaining affair.
Echuca United is also building without having a win yet, improving week on week under new coach Tanner Edwards.
A big round-one blowout to Moama was followed by a strong showing against reigning premier Tongala, before a thrilling round-three draw to Cobram.
Rumbalara will present a tough challenge, but the Eagles are playing themselves into form and will no doubt be up to the task.
In the weekend’s only other contest, Congupna will host Cobram, with both The Road and the Tigers undefeated so far through three rounds on the football field, while each earning one win on the netball court.
