In a see-sawing round 12 Murray Netball League match Moama fell tantalisingly short against flag contender Mulwala at Moama Recreation Reserve.

With both teams eyeing deep runs come finals, the match was a good measuring stick for a potential rematch when it matters most.
Both sides got off to good starts in the opening stanza, trading goals and firing on all cylinders.

However, it was the Lions that took the upper hand, leading by a pair of goals at quarter-time.
A narrow lead wasn’t going to stop Moama’s premiership-level attacking unit from continuing to pile on the goals, adding 14 throughout the second period.

This offensive efficiency allowed the host to snag a goal lead at the major break, with Moama’s defence limiting Mulwala to 11 goals in the same time.
The Magpies continued to crank up the intensity and built a solid foundation for victory in the third term, finding the net on 15 occasions by three-quarter time.

The Lions stayed within striking distance, with 12 goals in the third quarter, with four goals the difference at the final turn.
What looked to be a promising triumph for Moama was quickly ripped away as Mulwala piled on 14 goals down the stretch and shut down the Magpies in attack, restricting them to six goals in the final quarter.

This collapse meant that the Lions emerged as four-goal victors after trailing for much of the middle passages of the game.
While the 48-52 loss would be a bitter pill to swallow for the Magpies, it shows that at their best, they’re able to contend with the better teams.

The Murray league has a general bye this weekend and will recommence the following week when Moama will have a hell of a fight on its hands, facing undefeated Rumbalara in round 13.
