16 pairs took part in what was a very competitive, yet social, night of darts.
16 pairs was the perfect number, as we split into 4 groups of 4, not having to have any byes.
Each pair played a round-robin within their own group.
Based on the win/loss ratio, the top two in the group then progressed to the final eight knockout stage.
The group winners were Michael and Cat Bajowski, Darren Manners and Caylee Crilly, Will and Elizabeth Broucek, and Paul and Fran Seaton.
Group runners-up were Andrew Beaumont and Sammi McVickers, Chris Gritty and Sam Betts, John Villiers and Penny Gritty and lastly Geoff Ward and Ling Thomson.
It was great to see so many family groups playing.
Married couples and parent/child pairs made up seven of the 16 pairs in the field.
All matches in the round-robin stage were the best of three, 601 points target.
The knockout stage games were kept best of three until the final, which was best of five.
Chris Gritty and Sam Betts, and Andrew Beaumont and Sammi McVickers both won their way into the semi-finals but were unlucky not to go any further.
The final, which could have gone either way, seesawed and was eventually won by Darren Manners and Caylee Crilly in a 3-2 victory over husband and wife team, Michael and Cat Bajowski.
Shane Broucek, who played with daughter Haley, threw the only 180 for the night.
There were no high pegs recorded.
It should be noted that Caylee is only 14 years old and is one of our up-and-coming juniors.
She is also a member of the junior Victorian state team.
The association would like to see more juniors playing, so if you’re interested, send an email to emdartscd@gmail.com
