Moama bowlers Cass Millerick and Sandra Connolly walked away from Sunday’s Bendigo Campaspe Goldfield events with titles and will now compete against the best bowlers from throughout the state.
Millerick was brilliant from the outset of her Champion of Champions tournament, her closest call coming in the opening round of the event against Carrol Frost from Harcourt.
She won that match 25-21 a week ago and followed it up with a 25-10 win against Pam Hunter from Castlemaine.
Her quarter final win was a 25-14 victory, opposite White Hills club champion Carmel Jansen.
Then her results from Sunday were even more dominant, a semi final scoreline of 25-12 for her victory against Sharon Koch from Bendigo to set up a grand final showdown with Leah Whiffin from Golden Square.
Millerick won the match 25-7 and will now contest in championship week at Bendigo.
She will represent the Bendigo Campaspe Goldfields in April at those titles.
Connolly’s victory in the women’s state singles came after a delay to the final, following her semi-final win on February 13 against Bendigo’s Lee Harris.
She took the title after wins against Moama clubmate Beverley Button, who she beat 25-20, then a quarter final win against Sharon Koch.
The final win against Susan Howes from Kangaroo Flat came with a 25-14 scoreline.
Connolly will also compete at championship week in Bendigo, but in the state singles event that again involved all 16 regions.
Steve Cunnington won his way through to the final of the men’s champion of champion events after a marathon match with South Bendigo lawn bowls legend Brad Holland.
Cunnington and Holland were locked at 24 apiece before the Echuca club champion secured the match winning shot to set up the final against Andrew Brown.
In the final he was 17 all with Brown before kicking away to a three-shot lead.
He had a two-shot lead before Brown took three shots on a single end and then a two-shot haul to win the title.
