The UBC is one of the showpiece events in the world of bowls, with 26 teams comprised of the sport’s elite going head-to-head.
Included in that bracket was the team of Australian number one Cassandra Millerick, Scottish legend Alex Marshall and BPL winner Ryan Burnett, helping Moama share in the $280,000 prize pool with a convincing win over home club Warilla, which was similarly stacked with talent, in the form of Aaron Teys, Corey Wedlock and Jeremy Henry.

After sectional play, Moama Black qualified second in group A, while the Moama Green team of Wayne Turley, Ryan Bester and Kevin Anderson was in the running for top honours by qualifying second in group B.
Team Black toppled St Johns 77-58 in the quarter-finals before overcoming S.C. Tsunami 72-45 in the semis, carrying strong form into the final against Warilla, which toppled Moama Green 75-51 in the other semi-final.
The Moama Black players avenged their fallen teammates with a big win over Warilla in the final, running away with an 81-36 triumph. The Steamers also progressed to the quarter-finals of event two.
Moama pocketed $32,000 for the win, adding another title to the club’s UBC trophy cabinet haul.
The previous one came via Moama Green in last December’s UBC tournament in Moama, earning a $50,000 pay day after beating Warilla and taking out the status of Ultimate Team after finishing second and third in its other events.
The UBC victory is the latest in a long line of accolades for Millerick, who has enjoyed a barnstorming 2023 on the greens.
Millerick adds the UBC to her BPL17 title from February and her Australian Open singles crown in June.
