Moama’s under-16 side travelled to John Riordan Reserve in Shepparton at the weekend to take on Seymour in the Goulburn Murray Junior League division two clash.
Facing the undefeated Lions side, the Magpies started well to keep within nine points at quarter time, although a big second quarter from Seymour meant Moama trailed 4.3 (27) to 10.3 (63) at half time.
Fighting well in the third term, Moama restricted Seymour to 2.7 while kicking two majors of its own, leaving the margin at 43 points with a quarter to play.
Unfortunately for the Magpies, the Lions were able to kick away again late, piling on 50 points to seven in the final term, and although valiant, Moama suffered an eventual 7.4 (46) to 20.12 (132) loss.
William Pike and Liam Edge were Moama’s best, while William Bennett also played a solid game.
Zade Maschewski booted three majors, while Harry Barlow and Archie Teasdale chipped in with two each, as the trio of goal scorers rounded out the best players.
The result has also concluded the Magpies’ season, as they have the bye in the final round.
Moama sits fifth on the ladder, three points behind Euroa in fourth, with only the top four progressing to the finals.
