Despite leading early and making a strong push in the dying stages, Moama couldn’t steal the Murray Football League under-17s flag away from Cobram.

Hitting the track at Moama Recreation Reserve and under the watchful eye of thousands of fans, the young Magpies (2.2) jutted out to an early advantage despite the Tigers (1.0) drawing first blood, going up a goal and change at the first turn.
Moama stayed a step ahead with another goal at the start of the second period, the Tigers able to stay in the hunt with a major of their own minutes later, the scoreboard settling at 3.3 (21) to 2.4 (16) by the half-time siren.

Cobram came out hard in the third term, putting Moama under siege, banging in four unanswered goals, and while the Magpies were able to jag one late, Cobram snatched a 14-point lead at the last break.
The Tigers quietened down in the final frame, finding one goal to kick off proceedings before the Magpies went through the gears thanks to some strong transition play through the middle.
Moama’s Hamish Boyd was named best on ground for the match.

Moama’s midfield was able to find Lennix Keam up front on two separate occasions in the dying stages to bring the margin to five points.
However, it wasn’t to be as Cobram held firm to take the win 7.3 (45) to 7.9 (5.1) with tensions flaring between the two sides after the siren.

While the Tigers were jubilant and the Magpies left devastated, it wasn’t all bad news as one of Moama’s own, Hamish Boyd, was awarded best-on-ground honours in the grand final.
