The iconic grand final venue for the Goulburn Valley League has introduced a new hydration station, coinciding with the warming weather of spring as September football gets under way.
In a partnership between Goulburn Valley Water and Greater Shepparton City Council, footballers, netballers and supporters will be able to access free water from the fresh drinking fountain installed at the western end of the ground.
As the reserve expects a bumper crowd on the final day of the Shepparton football calendar, the drink bottle and bubbler tap will be vital in keeping those in attendance hydrated as the league’s top sides do battle for premiership glory.
The addition is the latest of 33 hydration stations installed across the Goulburn Valley, and the 10th in the Greater Shepparton region, with the deliberate plan to increase accessibility of drinking water dating back to 2014.
“We now have hydration stations in every town with a drinking water supply in our region, which includes 10 towns in the Greater Shepparton area,” Goulburn Valley Water managing director Dr Steve Capewell said.
“Our aim is to continue working with councils to help people make the best choice – to choose tap.”
City of Greater Shepparton Mayor Shane Sali welcomed the addition to the venue.
“It is perfect timing as we head into the Goulburn Valley League finals, with community members and visitors able to utilise the new hydration station at Deakin Reserve,” Sali said.
“The Deakin Reserve facility is utilised year-round, so we hope people take advantage of the improved amenities and the ability to access fresh water and stay hydrated while being active outdoors.”
A fourth station of the kind has also been installed at Shepparton Sports Precinct, further promoting permanent drinking spots at recreational reserves in the Goulburn Valley.
