Having missed 2020 due to the coronavirus pandemic, Rockets coach Mark McGann said it was a great weekend.
“We had a wonderful weekend weather-wise, and the football was great as well,” he said.
“It was great to have our player get to see their friends from other sides again, so there was quite the social event on the sidelines of the ground.
“But it was a great day of football. Everyone really enjoyed themselves and that's all you can ask for.”
Game one - Echuca Moama Rockets 5.5 (35) lt. Wangaratta-Merriwa Magpies 8.2 (50)
The Rockets opened the day against Wangaratta-Merriwa Magpies, and it was the Rockets goal sneak Jordan Betts who got the side firing with a first half goal.
While the Magpies had control for much of the opening half of play, the Rockets took charge in the second half.
Brent Thomas, Luke Peters, Katrina Delaney and Cameron Farrar would all register majors in the second half of the contest.
While the score wasn't enough to register a win, it was a strong opening to the round for the club.
Goals: Jordan Betts, Brent Thomas, Luke Peters, Katrina Delaney, Cameron Farrar.
Bests: Callum Charteris, Katrina Delaney, Luke Peters, Krystelle Lloyd, Brent Thomas.
Game two - Echuca Moama Rockets 2.1 (13) lt. Wodonga Bulldogs 7.3 (45)
It was a rocky start for the Rockets in their second clash with the Bulldogs.
Wodonga dominated the play, booting four unanswered goals to take the lead at the break.
But the Rockets found their groove in the second half, with Katrina Delaney and Jack Mundie finding the middle of the big sticks to get the side on the board.
The Bulldogs would be the better side in the end, claiming a 32-point win.
Goals: Katrina Delaney, Jack Mundie.
Bests: Jeff Kinvig, Jaymes Whelan, Tyler Wilson, Jack Mundie, Nicholas Clapp.
Game three - Echuca Moama Rockets 3.5 (23) lt. GV Stars 9.3 (57)
When Jordan Betts gets on a roll, it's near on impossible to stop him.
And in the Rockets’ final clash of the day, he did exactly that.
For the second time on the day, Betts opened the Rockets account with a first quarter goal, and followed it up after half-time with a second.
But Betts was far from alone, with Josh Trevena getting in on the action in the second term.
A nine-goal showing from the Stars would do nothing to dampen the Rockets spirits on the back of another strong performance.
Goals: Jordan Betts (2), Josh Trevena.
Bests: Nathan Dri, Josh Trevena, Jordan Betts, Ricky Phyland, Cameron Farrar, Zane Perri.
Awards: Luke Peters, Jeff Kinvig, Jaymes Whelan, Nathan Dri, Callum Cherteris.
