Echuca Moama Athletics has an action-packed season ahead. Community members of all ages are welcome to run, jump and throw for the remainder of 2024 and 2025.

After rebranding in 2023, Echuca Moama Athletics now offers something for everyone, with programs for juniors, seniors and masters.

On October 7, seniors will meet at Jack Eddy Oval on Monday at 6pm. The competition will be more relaxed to accommodate everyone’s skill level.

The seniors’ weekly meeting will rotate through events each week, with three different events undertaken at each meeting.

The junior meetings function in much the same way. Athletes are grouped by age and compete against each other in different events.

EMA’s little athletics competition will begin in term four and run until March, starting on Friday, October 11, at 5.30pm

If you seek a higher level of competition, there will be opportunities to run in Bendigo or Melbourne as part of Athletics Victoria’s competitions while still sporting EMA’s club colours and representing the local community.

The regional and state championships will be held later in the year, with numerous EMA athletes training for those meets.

The Northern Country Relay Carnival will be held on Saturday, November 16, and Sunday, November 17, and the location has yet to be decided.

The Northern Country Track and Field Carnival will be held on Saturday, February 15 and Sunday, February 16, with location still to be decided.

Last season, EMA held a 12-hour Relay-A-Thon to raise money for the club. Athletes kept a baton circling Jack Eddy Oval for the day, and community members could sponsor athletes.

They raised more than $3500 through that event and will hold another one this season.

The club has upgraded equipment and Jack Eddy Oval's sound system thanks to multiple state and community grants from the NSW Department of Sport, Murray River Council and Woolworths.

Echuca Moama Athletics president Kate Downward highlighted the excitement of club members for the upcoming season.

“We are excited to kick off; we have already had a lot of schools running their carnivals, and kids have been loving being back at it,” she said.

“The club is in a great situation at the moment, and we are all really looking forward to the season ahead.”
