Shepparton News names the June nominees for Goulburn Valley League Player of the Month and Rising Star

Blink and you miss it — three months have whizzed by in Goulburn Valley League.

More than two thirds of the season have been and gone, leaving a six-game stretch to round out the home and away campaign as sides click into gear for finals.

June welcomed monster margins and the occasional upset — the past weekend alone, we witnessed Mooroopna’s belt-up of Mansfield on the netball courts and Shepparton Swans’ pasting of Benalla on the footy field.

And embedded in those results, and beyond, were individual showings good enough to get the heart racing.

The GVL ranking point barrier was broken twice in June, with Benalla ruckman Mark Marriott chalking up a total of 253 against Mooroopna before Swans on-baller Nathan Hrovat bettered it by four points against the Saints two weeks later.

Meanwhile, Mooroopna netballer Ash Lancaster threw up a shooting best for the season, topping the game-high charts with an 84-goal showing against Mansfield.

In Friday’s edition of The News, we will elect the best GVL footballer, netballer and rising star winners of June and will continue to do so at the end of each month for the rest of the season.

The criteria for nominations are based on the past month, with respective open-age Player of the Month and 21-and-under Rising Star nominees required to have played at least two games of senior football or A-grade netball throughout the period.

At the end of the season, all Player of the Month and Rising Star winners will be graded, with the victorious nominees from the selected categories to receive a mystery prize.
