Already Goulburn Murray Cricket contenders, the Swans claimed outright possession of second place with a confident eight-wicket win at Gunbower Recreation Reserve.
The visiting South sent L-G in and was perhaps regretting that decision after the top order set a good platform for the host.
Coming together at 1-9, Tyler Jones and Scott Lucas put on 87 runs for the second wicket and looked in complete control of proceedings.
The introduction of Ben Eade swung things back in the Swans’ favour, as he first removed Lucas for 41, before adding Jones (57) to his victims list a few overs later.
With the two set batters gone, the rest of the L-G order wasn’t able to replicate its success.
A couple of starts were made in the middle order and Blake Gibson (17 not out) looked in decent touch, but the tail crumbled, the last five batters adding only two runs between them as the L-G innings was brought to a close for 149 runs.
Eade continued his rampage into the middle order, finishing with a five-wicket haul (5-34), while all-round threat Asantha Singappuli snagged 3-20.
South rolled to the target without too much trouble when it came time to bat.
Although it lost its bowling stars Eade and Singappuli cheaply, remaining opener Jayden Rosin combined with captain Rathika Rajakumara to put the win in sight.
Initially playing within himself, Rosin exploded in the back half of the chase, sending four sixes sailing over the rope to go with six fours as he finished unbeaten on 74 from 110 deliveries.
Meanwhile, Rajakumara was a worthy partner, keeping things moving with 42 not out from 53 balls.
The pair required no assistance as the Swans got home in 31 overs.
Blake Gibson and James Keath grabbed the two wickets for L-G.
Bamawm-Lockington United’s defeat allowed South to take sole possession of second place, still trailing unbeaten Moama by three games.
The Swans are set to take on winless Nondies-Cohuna on Saturday in a game where they will expect to take the points, while Leitchville-Gunbower battles a Kyabram Fire Brigade side looking to bounce back after falling from the top four.
