Kevin Campbell, Cliff Eagle, Chris Burn, Neil Goudie and Rob Daly, along with two Portland friends Brian Jenkins and Lionel Pevitt, finished the two day carnival with a very close victory.
Representing the Goldfields 8Ball side, the team finished second on the ladder at the end of the early rounds.
The seven versus seven singles format was the order of the day, and the local lads were well placed at the end of the early knockout competition.
They finished second before the finals, when they accounted for Maryborough 4-2 before advancing to the grand final to take on Western Plains, who had beaten them 4-3 in the early rounds.
It was a very close struggle before coming down to 3-all with one frame to play.
Goudie was the man for the job, and he held his nerve to get his team over the line to claim a narrow 4-3 victory.
Four of the side also claimed All-Star Medals with Jenkins and Pevitt winning seven of their eight games, and Eagle and Goudie claiming six.
The team gets to defend their title at next year’s carnival in Ararat.
