Many teams are yet to finalise names after round one matches were played at Moama Sporting Complex on Wednesday.
In what hopefully signals a competitive season ahead, all four matches went down to the wire, finishing 6-5.
In opening round action, The Bashers, led by Jen Fang, was defeated by ‘Echuca Table Tennis Club’ captained by Div Mallya.
Victory in both doubles paved the way for ETTC’s victory.
Jimmy Greenwood’s Team 2 started on the front foot with a victory over the Hank Doller-led Team 1.
A five-game thriller between the two teams’ number ones capped off the night, Doller recovering from 2-1 down to prevail 3-2, but it wasn’t enough for his side to come away with the points.
Judy James’ Team 6 picked up a victory over Team 5, headed up by Kevin Mao.
After the sides split the doubles rubbers it came down to a deciding block of singles matches, Team 6 scoring two wins to earn the overall result.
In the final contest, Ray Kissell’s Smashing Dragons scored the win over Team 4.
Dragons won both doubles matches, setting up an easier run through the remaining singles rubbers.
The competition will continue again on Wednesday, practice from 6.30pm, games to begin at 7pm.
