It is a second representative football honour for Williams after her showing for the under-17 squad last year, and she will come in as one of the most promising key position utilities on the back of a strong season so far for Bendigo Pioneers.
The 18-year-old will head to Ballarat’s Mars Stadium this Sunday to face Vic Metro as a member of the 27-strong squad, one of three Pioneers picked for the championships along with Lila Keck and Octavia DiDonato.
“It’s obviously a really good opportunity to hopefully play some good footy on my behalf, but also play a higher level of footy,” Willliams said.
This season, Williams has undergone a transformative approach to her game, adopting the Pioneers forward line as her new base of operations after previously favouring the defensive craft.
Williams has eight goals from her seven games this season, averaging more than 10 disposals and three marks a game with a three-goal haul against Calder Cannons almost dragging Bendigo to victory.
It’s earmarked Williams as one of the notable key-position utilities in the NAB League, but she admits the switch took some adjusting.
“I didn’t have the best start,” Williams said.
“I had a few scratchy games just learning the position and my role.
“I’m starting to come to it now and starting to pick up on what to do and what not to do with my positioning and being that strong option.
“I like the challenge, it’s a bit different.”
The championships showcase some of the brightest football talents across the nation, and Vic Country will have games against South Australia and Queensland in April.
For Williams, she’s just focusing on putting her best foot forward.
“I just want to finish with a strong year, play the best footy I can, and looking forward I want to go as far as I can with my footy,” she said.
