After four rounds, the 2022 finalists have just one win to their name — a round one triumph over Echuca United.
A 55-point loss to Moama is the outlier of the Blues’ three defeats so far this season, with the others a one-goal loss to Nathalia and a 13-point loss to last year’s grand finalist Cobram.
As the Blues’ mentor points out, it could have been an entirely different story for the 10th-place side if not for some key lapses.
“We could be 3-1 as opposed to 1-3,” Daniel said.
“We’re getting better every week, we asked the boys for more of an effort and they certainly showed that (against Cobram).
“We’re just very young and inconsistent to start the year, we’re playing in patches but when we do play good footy we can match it with the better teams.
“But we have lapses in concentration, and the good teams hurt you.”
Daniel explained that with a plethora of experience exiting the club prior to the season, fast starts were crucial.
“It’s pretty important to get a good start with such a young side, confidence is a big thing for us this year because we’ve lost a lot of leaders,” he said.
“We really need 22 contributors every week.”
Daniel said his side wouldn’t travel to Rumbalara — who has lost each of its first three games by more than 100 points — expecting a win to simply happen.
He also confirmed last week’s best-on-ground, Brock McLean, wouldn’t take part in the clash, shaping as the only change for the Blues’ squad bound for Rumbalara Reserve.
Around the league, Cobram will host Echuca United at Scott Oval in what shapes as a key test for the Eagles.
Moama will face Barooga at Moama Recreation Reserve, while Tocumwal will be hunting its first win this season against Deniliquin Rams.
The game of the round looks like it will occur at Numurkah Showgrounds as the undefeated Blues and Congupna butt heads.
The MFL’s other undefeated team, Mulwala, will be hoping to keep its winning start alive when it hosts Nathalia at Lonsdale Reserve.
Blues hunting fifth consecutive win
Tongala will be aiming to keep its stellar start to the Murray Netball League A-grade season going against last year’s grand finalist Rumbalara.
Rumba shape as a key test for the aspiring Blues, who have won four games on the spin to kick-start their season.
Their latest triumph was a 30-goal win over Cobram, while Rumbalara is looking to rebound from an 11-goal defeat to Echuca United last round.
