Tongala’s aspirations dented by dominant Mulwala

Mulwala dented Tongala’s spirit early, piling on nine goals by quarter-time, while allowing 1.1 in reply.

As the game quickly sprinted out of reach, Tongala wasn’t able to arrest the slide, the Lions 89-point leaders at the main break.

The Blues were able to slow the scoring rate in the second half, Mulwala kicking eight goals after the break compared to 16 before half-time, but it did little to affect the final result.

Mulwala continued its surge towards the top of the table, 24.13 (157) to 3.5 (23).

Matthew Caia, Jedd Turpin and Matthew Daniel provided the goals for Tongala, while Lewis Taylor led Mulwala by slotting five.

A record of 2-6 approaching the midway point of the year is far from where Tonny wants to be, but the Blues remain only two games back from finals places, a more than achievable margin over the remaining 10 fixtures.

Drawn against another top four side in Nathalia this weekend, Tonny will be hoping to log a better result on its home turf of Tongala Recreation Reserve.
