The Goulburn Valley League was on hiatus at the weekend as the league took on Ovens and Murray in what has become an annual interleague showdown, this year held in Wangaratta at WJ Findlay Oval.
While Rochester talent wasn’t selected in any of the three netball grades, the Tigers had a chance to represent in the football clashes.
Runner-up league best-and-fairest from 2024 Mitch Trewhella suited up for the GVL as it took on O&M in the senior football, while Jordy Rasmussen represented Rochester in the under-18 clash.
Unfortunately, despite the best efforts of Trewhella, Rasmussen and their GVL teammates, O&M walked away with the win in both football clashes.
The seniors' game was a far cry from the local league’s heroic victory a year ago, O&M dominating by 77 points, 18.19 (127) to 7.8 (50).
The under-18s put in a better effort and even led narrowly at three-quarter time, but ultimately O&M finished stronger to win 10.13 (73) to 9.6 (60).
The GVL was also defeated in the 15-and-under netball, but scored wins in the 17-and-under and Open grades.
