Echuca Moama Cycling Club’s Max Trewhella has claimed a major result, taking out the Inglewood Classic Handicap hosted by Bendigo District Cycling Club at the weekend.
Setting off in the fourth group on the road, six minutes ahead of the scratch riders, Trewhella rode strongly as various groups came together as the race progressed, with a high pace being set by those at the lead of the race.
A large bunch remained intact as the finish line approached, and after 60 kilometres of racing Trewhella found himself on the front as the group rounded the final corner, powering away from the remaining riders to claim the win by three bike lengths.
There was an added bonus for Trewhella, who also claimed three points in the BDCC Bendigo Road Classic aggregate series to take his total to eight points, tied with pre-race leader Connor Sens.
The race victory was enough to earn the Echuca talent the series win via countback, however, taking home the $750 first prize alongside his handicap win.
It is yet another strong result for the EMCC rider in Bendigo, having won the B-grade title at the Merv Dean Memorial Tour in June.
It was the only racing that any EMCC member saw at the weekend, with the club’s criterium racing on Friday night cancelled due to dangerous weather conditions.
