With finals on the line, the top-four clash between Kyabram Fire Brigade and Nondies-Cohuna is evenly poised after the first day of play.

Mitch Treacy’s 45 runs and Rhys Bradley’s 26 were pivotal in helping Nondies post a first-innings total of 186, with Tom Owen the pick of the Flames bowlers with 4-46 from his 19 overs.

But early in the run chase, the Flames were set upon by young quick Xavier Wishart who managed to extract the prized scalp of Paul Newman and Jack Donnell in Kyabram’s eight-over stint with the bat.

The Flames will resume at 2-39, with the winner of the game earning qualification for McMahon Shield finals.

The loser will be keeping an eye on the result at Bamawm and hope Moama can overcome BLU to bundle the Lions out of the finals race.
