Muay Thai fighters in the Goulburn Valley region have the chance to learn off the best in the world, as homegrown product James Honey returns to his local roots, providing a training day at CD Martial Arts in Tallygaroopna.
The 30-year-old middleweight kickboxer won his latest fight in August by unanimous decision, taking his record to 34 wins - including nine knockouts - and 11 losses.
The two-hour session on Saturday, January 10 will have Honey teach aspiring kickboxers the tricks of the trade that have elevated the Muay Thai fighter to world champion status.
Honey currently holds three world belts to his name - the WMO Middleweight World Title, the ISKA Middleweight K-1 Rules World Title, and the WMO International Middleweight Title.
“I’m going to teach them everything I’ve learnt, I’ve travelled the world and have been able to win state titles, national titles, world titles - so all the little things that have helped me along the way,” Honey said.
For Honey, the opportunity is special given his connection to the region, and he has hopes that the seminar will motivate young martial arts fighters to chase their dreams.
“It means heaps,” he said.
“When I was a kid a famous fighter came and did a seminar, and it was the best thing ever, so if I can inspire one person from this session I’d be happy.
“Once somebody sees someone from their home town make it, it means they have the belief they can do that too.
“I hope I can inspire the next generation coming through and someone will be the next up from Shepparton.”
