The $126,000 in funding is part of the region’s “Move It” project and will create opportunities for older people (65 years or over, 50 years or over for indigenous participants) in the Campaspe Shire to get more active and social.
The goal is to provide the subsidised classes at each of the eight neighbourhood houses starting from February 2020
There will also be gentle aqua and water fit classes at the Echuca War Memorial Aquatic Centre.
Rochester Community House co-ordinator Amanda Logie said the program would be a key priority for the organisation in 2020.
“We’re always looking for ways to improve older adults’ health and wellbeing,” she said.
“This is a great opportunity for the community houses to provide on a larger scale.
“We want to encourage them to look after their health and wellbeing as well as their social connections.”
Free ‘come and try’ classes will be held starting Monday, December 2.
Rochester: Pilates, December 2 at 7pm; Strength and Balance, December 3 at 9am; Tai Chi, December 6 at 10.30am.
Lockington: Strength and Balance, December 2 and December 4 at 9am; Tai Chi, December 4 at 5.30pm.
